Thursday, March 121. Persepolis Reading Guide
Students were given time to complete the reading guide questions for Chapters 4 & 5 from last night's homework. As a class, we discussed what has happened thus far in the graphic novel. 2. Chapter 6 Students gathered in groups to read the above chapter and answer the guided reading questions. 3. Writing Prompt Students answered a writing prompt question applying events and themes from the graphic novel. 4. Quiz Prep Students received instruction on Monday's chapter quiz on Persepolis.

Wednesday, March 111. Vocabulary Quiz
Students took a quiz on vocabulary list 3 words. 2. Personalization After turning in their quizzes, students had personalization time to make up missing work, get a head start on homework, or any other additional work. 3. Vocabulary List 4 Students received vocabulary list 4 words. As a class, we discussed each word and its definition. HW: READ PERSEPOLIS CHAPTERS 4 & 5 Tuesday, March 101. Library
Students checked out Persepolis in the library. 2. Vocabulary Kahoot! Students played a review game to help prepare them for tomorrow's vocabulary quiz. 3. What is a Revolution? As a class, we watched a clip and discussed what a revolution is and what one looks like. Students jotted down a few notes for reminder. 4. Novel Prep To gain background knowledge on Persepolis, students read and answered questions about Iran and the Islamic Revolution. We also looked at graphic novels and how to read them. 5. Reading Chapters 1-3 As a class, we began reading the first chapter of the graphic novel. With any remaining time, students continued reading through Chapter 3. HW: READ CHAPTERS 1-3! Friday, March 61. Night Final Test
Students took their final test for the above memoir. 2. Personal Reflection After finishing their test, students answered a few questions, prompting students to reflect on their performance and effort on both the test and on this unit- what they feel they did well and what they feel they could improve upon for our next unit. Thursday, March 51. Prep for Night Test
Students were given time to continue putting sticky notes in their novels to prepare for the open-book portion of tomorrow's test. 2. Jeopardy As a way to review for the test, we played a review game! 3. Prep/Additional Questions With any remaining time left of class, students were allowed to continue preparing for the test or finishing the guided reading packet. As a class, we read the last 2 chapters (8&9) together as a class. Students worked on their reading guide as we read. 2. Preparing for Night Test Students were given suggestions for best practices to study and prepare for their test. Students were also given class time to prepare by putting sticky notes in their books for the open-book portion of the test. Tuesday, March 31. Vocabulary Quiz 2
Students had five minutes after the bell to study before taking our vocabulary quiz. 2. Vocabulary List 3 Students received a new list of vocabulary words. As a class, we discussed each word and its definition. 3. Night Chapter 7 Students read the above chapter in groups, filling out the reading guide as they read. Monday, March 21. Vocabulary Kahoot!
Students participated in a review game to help prepare for tomorrow's vocabulary quiz. 2. Elie's Loss of Faith ACE Paragraph Students were given a few minutes to finish the above ACE paragraph from Friday's class. 3. Night Chapter 6 As a class, we read the first half of Chapter 6 together, pausing to analyze and assess plot points. Students then read the last half of Chapter 6 independently. Friday, February 281. As a class, we finished Chapter 5 and read part of Chapter 6. 2. Analyzing Elie's Loss of Faith Students analyzed Elie's loss of faith in the first five chapters of the memoir. To support their claims, students cited textual evidence from each chapter. 3. ACE Paragraph Work As a class, we reviewed the steps of writing an ACE paragraph. Students received a sample ACE paragraph, labeled the parts of the paragraph, and provided feedback for it. Afterwards, students wrote their own ACE paragraph in which they analyzed Elie's loss of faith. Thursday, February 271. Figurative Language in Night
After a quick review of figurative language devices, students identified different devices in lines from the above memoir. Other than simply identifying the figurative language, students had to explain what author's message in each device. 2. Finish Chapter 5 As a class, we finished reading Chapter 5 of Night. 3. Guided Reading Questions Students were given time at the end of class to work on completing the guided reading questions for the text. |
